What happens when a WWE Superstar turned UFC hopeful writes a comic book series featuring a character made famous on the big screen by a former WWE Superstar turned Bond villain?
Clobberin’ time, maybe?
With apologies to Ben Grimm (aka The Thing), we’re about to find out this week as Drax #1 arrives from Marvel Comics with a story penned by Phil Brooks (aka CM Punk) focusing on Drax The Destroyer from Guardians of the Galaxy. Drax, of course, was played in the 2014 movie by Dave Bautista (aka Batista in WWE) who is Hinx in Spectre, the newest Bond movie, which opens in theaters on Friday.
Get all that? Now it’s time to get the details on the books.
The comic arrives in four forms for collectors to chase — a standard version (top), an MMA/Punk-inspired cover, a cover with the latest hip-hop CD cover homage and one of the popular baby variant covers.
Punk, a long-time comic fan, was known for screaming “It’s clobbering time!” to the camera during his entrances to a WWE ring. Ironically, Punk’s exit from WWE coincided with a return by Batista at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in 2014. Punk went on to train for his still-to-come MMA debut, while Batista went on to the main event of WrestleMania XXX.
Guardians went on to make more than $300 million at the box office, but it will only cost you $3.99 (standard cover price) for Punk’s comic-book
debut first non-annual work.
Any ideas on what a dual-signed copy might go for?
