Update (Nov. 10): Leaf Trading Cards’ Brian Gray said he recently completed a signing with Chase and his first autograph cards will be found in packs of 2016 Leaf Pop Century.
He’s a comedy icon with memorable roles as Clark Griswold in the National Lampoon Vacation films, Ty Webb in Caddyshack, Irwin Fletcher in Fletch, Dusty Bottoms in Three Amigos and so much more.
But there’s one place you haven’t seen Chevy Chase and that’s on a certified (non-cut) autograph card.
What’s interesting about this is that he’s not that tough of an autograph to land. Signed photos from his time as a Los Angeles Laker in Fletch have been available for years and signed posters like the one above can be found with some hunting from big dealers along with other items. (We’ll make it easy and link to TRISTAR right here. And we’ll drop an even more impressive Steiner link right here.)
He’s had a literal handful of cut autos made by Press Pass, Topps and Leaf Trading Cards in the recent past, so he’s definitely been on the minds of card companies. However, signing photos and posters probably comes at a higher rate of pay and lower volume than what might be needed for a card set. One would think that one of the kings of 1970s and 1980s comedy would be appreciated enough to sell some cardboard if his certified autograph was found in the right non-sports product though.
