Andrelton Simmons autographs might be big winner after trade sending him to Los Angeles

SimmonsOn Wednesday, Atlanta shortstop Andrelton Simmons picked up the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year award. On Thursday, he picked up his stuff and headed to Los Angeles as the Braves traded him to the Angels for a pair of pitching prospects, Sean Newcomb and Chris Ellis, as well as shortstop Erick Aybar.

Could Simmons’ autographs be picking up next?

It’s possible that a move to a major market will spark interest in his autographs, which aren’t all that plentiful and first arrived back in Bowman brands in 2012. He appears on roughly 100 cards with nearly all of them being Topps brands. He has fewer than 10 Panini America autos and most of them appeared in 2012 National Treasures and Prime Cuts.

With so few different autographs — typically young players will have plenty before their arrival — there could be added intensity in eBay bidding. For now, Simmons’ ink seems to be available and affordable.

Newcomb’s first autographs can be found in 2014 brands — and he already has more signed cards than Simmons — while Ellis also made his debut in 2014. Aybar has fewer than 50 certified autos since his first certified autos in 2003.
