If you’ve done some cardboard hunting at the retail aisle, you may have passed right by the home of some of the hottest baseball cards available in stores like Target.
The card above? It’s a 2015 Topps Chrome Update Black Refractor of reigning National League Rookie of the Year Kris Bryant and it was only found in a 2015 Topps Update Mega Box — a retail box with five Update packs and two exclusive Chrome Update packs inside.
It’s serial-numbered to 99 copies and sold for $100 on eBay. Because there are only two Chrome packs per box, these have been selling quite well because key guys aren’t simple every-box pulls even for their base cards. (You can find boxes and cases at Blowout right here, though.)
This year’s boxes aren’t just stacked with Bryant or Black parallels. There are Gold Refractors (/250) — though all cards have the sparkle finish in this one — and Bryant is joined by the likes of reigning American League Rookie of the Year Carlos Correa, the Giants’ Matt Duffy and the Mets’ Noah Syndergaard who are selling quite well.
It also doesn’t hurt that the checklist also includes Relics and Auto Relics from members of the All-Star squads — an autograph lineup that includes Mike Trout, Buster Posey, David Price, Jose Altuve, Jacob deGrom and Manny Machado. The Relic lineup includes Bryant, Bryce Harper, Albert Pujols, Joc Pederson and plenty more.

Last year’s lineup — same formula of two Chrome Update packs and five Update packs — may not be as hot with two specific guys driving sales, but there’s a deep crop of players with some of them seen on its box — it’s a group that includes Masahiro Tanaka, Jose Abreu, Gregory Polanco and George Springer. The set also includes Jacob deGrom, Mookie Betts, who are sellers for their parallels. (Click here for 2014 boxes and cases at Blowout.)
