It’s one part automotive gem, one part musical memorabilia, but one thing’s for sure about Janis Joplin‘s restored 1965 Porsche 356C 1600 Cabriolet.
This pearl is headed to auction.
Once displayed in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, the car is among several hitting the auction block next Thursday (Dec. 10) through RM Sotheby’s in New York. It’s been consigned by Joplin’s brother and sister who have owned the car since 1973.
This “History of the Universe” piece was driven by the rock star regularly between 1968 and her death in October 1970. She purchased it for $3,500 and had it hand-painted to her liking.
It’s estimated to sell for somewhere between $400,000 and $600,000.
