Former rugby star Jarryd Hayne a hit on Panini America’s NFL cardboard

HayneThe story of Jarryd Hayne is a unique one that reached a peak back in September when he made the roster of the San Francisco 49ers.

Why? His previous sports experience was as a player in Australia’s National Rugby League.

But now there’s another peak for the running back — he has NFL cards that have recently arrived and his newest ones are to be found in 2015 Panini Crown Royale, which hits stores next week. Those that are available have been peaking pretty well as his career waits to see what’s next.

HayneBlackFidayLife as a member of the Parramatta Eels was different than it is in the NFL, so people have watched his attempt at football closely. At one point this season, his jersey ranked fifth among all NFL players in terms of sales on

Hayne played six games for the 49ers — eight carries for 25 yards and one catch for seven along with special teams spots — before he was cut and then re-signed to the team’s practice squad earlier this month.

His first cards arrived in 2015 Panini Prizm last month along with some found in the company’s Black Friday packs. Crown Royale also will include his newest cards, though it doesn’t appear Hayne has any certified autograph or game-used memorabilia cards just yet.

Hayne’s cards are selling pretty well on eBay with a high of $158.49 paid for a Prizm parallel limited to five copies. Meanwhile, a Cracked Ice version of his Black Friday card went for $130. These are not alone as 15 other auctions for base cards or parallels have topped $30.

Practice squad or not, autographed card or not — it seems collectors all around the world are still watching.
