Buzz List: Five NFL players to watch in Week 14

JohnnyManzielBuzz-worthy or bust-worthy — those might be the labels thrown around this week depending on what Cleveland’s Johnny Bench Football does as starter for the Browns.

Johnny Manziel has probably been a disappointment to many considering where his cardboard ranked among his rookie peers last year but this week’s game could end up being a coming out party showing or one where the moralists and scouts say “I told you so” before they bail on his cardboard.

Love ’em or hate ’em, Manziel is one to watch against the San Francisco 49ers. Keep reading for four more …

CJ-Spiller— C.J. Spiller This New Orleans Saints RB figures to get some added playing time with the team placing former Heisman winner and lead back Mark Ingram on Injured Reserve with a separated shoulder. Will this member of the 2010 rookie class get things going? He’s probably the better option for collectors on the team as a former No. 9-overall draft pick. The other guy is Tim Hightower, who’s even older as a2008 rookie.

Eddie-Lacy— Eddie Lacy This Green Bay Packers RB has been here in past weeks but, keeping with our disappointments theme established with Manziel, he’s one to watch and watch closely. By his standards, he’s been a bust this season. Then he was benched last week for missing curfew. Will he come back big this week? Or will he find himself out the door at some point? Most collectors who paid big to get in this door probably sold already.

Stewart— Jonathan Stewart We’ll keep with a RB run here and focus on the top runner for the undefeated Carolina Panthers, a team he’s been with since his rookie year of 2008. Stewart’s had a respectable season and should join the 1000-yard club this week. He’s not as much of a dominating scorer as he was his first two years (10 touchdowns those seasons) but he’s on pace to have a solid total. It will be just his second 1,000-yard campaign and his second-best scoring total this season if things hold up.

Todd-Gurley— Todd Gurley Remember when this Rams rookie RB had four straight weeks of at least 128 yards rushing? Well, he’s fallen off the map since then — and only one game over 50 yards in the last month. In the last two weeks, he’s had just nine carries per game and has gone scoreless. Will he rebound against the Lions? Collectors who bought in earlier in the year certainly hope so.
