What’s buzz-worthy: A new wave of retro-styled but modern Donruss baseball cards arrives during spring training next year as Panini America revealed the basics on this new one, which will include autographed buybacks, plenty of inserts, plenty of base cards and more hits than the typical lower-end brand. Among the surprises? A memorabilia card for the famed The Famous (San Diego) Chicken mascot.

The Basics: The base set will consist of 150 cards each with printing plates, Black-border, Pink, Holometric, Holoflow and Test Proofs among the parallels. … Among the inserts will be Elite Dominators and Elite Series, The Rookies, Diamond Kings, Power Alley. … Autograph and memorabilia and will have Promising Pros Materials, Back to the Future Materials (throwback memorabilia pieces), New Breed Autographs and Significant Signatures to chase. … The Chicken’s appearance will be in the Silhouettes insert set. … Buyback autos will include the 1982 Donruss Cal Ripken Jr. Rookie Card among others, while a subset will also take a look back at that season’s design, which is seen above.
