What’s buzz-worthy: The wave of retro-styled modern Donruss cards returns to the NBA and, just like its baseball counterpart, it includes plenty of inserts, plenty of base cards and more hits than the typical lower-end brand. This year’s release also will be more limited than last season.

The Basics: The base set will consist of 250 cards — 200 veterans and 50 Rated Rookies. … Collectors should expect nine serial-numbered cards per box and among the inserts will be Scoring Kings, Passing Kings, Elite Dominators for rookies and veterans along with autographed versions of those cards. … Among the hits in this one will be Innovative Ink, Studio Series, Rookie Materials, Timeless Treasures and Rated Rookie Signature patches.
