The Atlanta Falcons took a 7-7 record into their game against the undefeated Carolina Panthers on Sunday and thanks to one guy’s one big play they recorded their biggest win of the season.
The player was WR Julio Jones and the play was a 70-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter — the biggest part of a nine-catch, 178-yard day. Jones has been one of the better receivers in the league, but this is one play for the highlight reels that could live on for some time.
His Rookie Cards can be found back in 2011 products and, in general, his autographs aren’t all that plentiful. Combine that with interest from his past Alabama Crimson Tide fans and some of those early cards can be tougher to find.
Keep reading for four more guys who generated some buzz on the field this week. (Note: This was published before the late games this week.)
— Mike Gillislee The Bills RB scored for the third week in a row and had his best game of the season when he ran for 93 yards on just nine carries. After the early slate of games this week that was the fourth-best rushing total in the entire NFL. Sure, Buffalo looked bad against an even worse Cowboys team, but perhaps this guy is showing he has potential in the future and there could be some dark-horse bargains to be had among the 2013 Rookie Cards of this former Florida Gator and Miami Dolphin.
— Kirk Cousins Washington’s QB threw for 365 yards and four touchdowns on Saturday night to clinch the NFC East crown with a 38-24 win over the Eagles. For the year, he’s got 3,990 passing yards and 26 touchdowns perhaps locking down the title of the most-overlooked actually-collectable QB in the NFL. (RGIII who?) It was his fourth game of the year with three or more TDs and he’s scored in every single game this season. His 2012 Rookie Cards already seem to have more attention than Buzz would have expected but still probably not as much attention as that other guy got in the past.
— Jordan Reed Washington’s TE was the biggest target for Cousins as he hauled in nine catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns in the win. This third-round pick from 2013 has put up a career year with 11 touchdowns and he just might have a shot at 1,000 yards receiving in the season finale against the Cowboys next week. He had just 465 yards and didn’t score a single time last season.
— Brandon Weeden Need another scrappy scrap-heap pick for the end of a long season? How about this QB for the Houston Texans — a Dallas Cowboy earlier this year — who threw for 200 yards with two touchdowns and also rushed for another on Sunday. This is arguably the best game of the year for the Browns’ first-round pick in 2012. Grab one of his 2002 Bowman Chrome baseball autos — when he was a New York Yankees prospect — if you want something different.
— Need even more Buzz? Sam Bradford, Matt Ryan, Ryan Tannehill, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Matt Stafford, Jameis Winston, DeAngelo Williams, Frank Gore, Zach Ertz, DeAndre Hopkins, Brandon Marshall, Devonta Freeman, Darren McFadden, Buck Allen
