There was an awakening and it’s been felt on eBay as well as the box office.
Another Mystery Redemption from 2015 Topps Star Wars: The Force Awakens Series 1 has sold for big bucks on eBay, going for $1,700 on Sunday. (Spoiler alert: It’s for an autograph of Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey.) Four other copies have sold for $1,200 or more on eBay since the product’s release 11 days ago, while a fifth sale came in at $900 to set the low mark.
Asking prices for the card in current auctions have gotten steeper, though.
The two active auctions for the redemptions are $2,499.99 or best offer and $3,999.99 Buy It Now.
Ridley has never had a certified autograph before and will be a fixture as the lead in future Star Wars films. The next one arrives in 2017, meanwhile The Force Awakens just topped the $1 billion mark globally at the box office.
So, there’s bound to be some demand for her first autograph, which appears to be limited.
It’s not the only hot Star Wars card right now as asking prices for rare parallels and key autographs of mainstays in the multiple-movie franchise are regularly topping the $500 mark. The steepest one is a 1/1 Red parallel autograph of Harrison Ford, also a redemption, which has an $11,999.95 or best offer listing on eBay right now.
As for completed sales, there are other highlights. A John Boyega (Finn) Force Awakens Gold autograph parallel redemption (/10) sold for $1,495.95 and more than 20 other cards (sketches, autographs, dual autographs, 1/1 parallels) have sold for between $299 and $1,000 in recent times.
