The Dallas Cowboys’ QB put up impressive numbers in a game that was never even close — but they still count.
Kellen Moore threw for 435 yards and three touchdowns (also throwing two picks and losing a fumble) in a 34-23 loss to Washington on Sunday, marking the end of a dismal season for the Cowboys and his last chance to make an impression on collectors before Tony Romo returns from injury next season. He ends the year with just four TDs and six picks since he only played in two other games this season — all losses.
Will a game like this breath some long-term life into his 2012 Rookie Cards? Probably not, but it’s a reminder that a good game can bring the spotlight to anyone in any week in the NFL — so he gets the nod here.
Keep reading for four more guys who generated some buzz on the field this week. (Note: selections made before late games were completed on Sunday … and watch for our yearly version of this list later this week.)
Ryan Tannehill — The Miami Dolphins managed to upset the New England Patriots 20-10 on Sunday and a big part of that was the play of their QB. He completed 25 of 38 passes for 350 yards and two touchdowns in the win. He put up his third straight 20-touchdown season and second in a row with more than 4,000 passing yards. He might be one of the more-overlooked QBs in the league, which means his 2012 RCs might be undervalued.
Antonio Brown — Another week means another big week for this Steelers WR who has been on this list quite a few times this season. On Sunday he caught 13 of the 17 passes that came his way en route to a 187-yard day that included a touchdown. He has had 125 catches two seasons in a row and put up some of the most-impressive numbers we’ve seen in a long time — more than 1,600 yards in each of the last two seasons as well as double-digits in touchdowns. His 2010 RCs will be in demand from here on out.
Cole Beasley — This Cowboys WR may me small but powerful, but when he scored two touchdowns in a meaningless game on Sunday he did something that most players couldn’t do around the league. His two TDs were double the number of his Rookie Cards. Yep, the National Treasures card above is the only one he has. So on Sunday it was five catches, 53 yards and two touchdowns for the guy with one RC.
Rashad Jennings — This Giants RB broke off 170 yards on 27 carries and added a touchdown in a 35-30 loss to the Eagles. It wasn’t a career-high, but it was a season-high for a guy who entered the day with just 693 yards and two TDs this season. If you want one of his RCs, you’ll need to look all the way back to 2009.
