Five NFL coaches get spotlight after signing for 2015 Panini Contenders

2015-Panini-Contenders-Chuck-PaganoAt least one of them is no longer with his team, but there are five “Rookie Cards” in 2015 Panini Contenders that collectors might not expect to see.

And their autographs might go for more than you might expect, too.

Why? They’re NFL coaches — and they, for the most part, don’t have any other certified autograph cards.

panini-america-2015-contenders-football-qc91Five current or former NFL coaches’ autographs can be found in Contenders — Chip Kelly, Dan Quinn, Chuck Pagano, Bruce Arians and Sean Payton.

Kelly was dismissed as the Philadelphia Eagles coach on Dec. 29 before the end of a 7-9 season. Pagano was thought to be on the way out in Indianapolis after an 8-8 year, but he was retained by the Colts on Monday after signing a contract extension.

Quinn coached the Atlanta Falcons to an 8-8 record, while Arians has the Arizona Cardinals headed into the postseason after a 13-3 season. The coaching rights to Payton might be traded by the New Orleans Saints (yep, they can do that) as other teams have been interested in the veteran coach who was 7-9 this year. Payton is the only one to have a previous autograph as he was a “coaching prospects” signer way back in 2004 Bowman when he was with the Dallas Cowboys. That’s his only card and it’s from one of very few coach-specific sets made in the last 20 years.

Each of the coaches has a Ticket, Cracked Ice Ticket, Playoff Ticket, Super Bowl Ticket, Championship Ticket and printing plates.
