He’s no Deadpool, but Peter Parker raked in a few bucks this past weekend.
How? A Heritage Auctions sale of the first appearance of Spider-Man slabbed in an elite grade fetched six figures at auction.
The issue is Amazing Fantasy No. 15 and it was published in August 1962. Since then very few issues have survived in this top condition. A CGC 9.4, this copy has only been topped three times and only three other copies have equaled it.
This issue, of course, tells the origin of Spider-Man and also includes the first appearances of Uncle Ben and Aunt May. It’s got a cover by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, too.
It was estimated to sell for around $240,000 (the Overstreet value for a 9.2) but after 25 bids that estimate was left in the dust.
The book sold for $454,100.
