Pablo Sandoval’s spring training drama won’t affect his lone RC

2008-Topps-Heritage-High-Sandoval-Rookie-CardThe spring training drama that is Pablo Sandoval and his “waist management” concerns is the big non-story story so far, but there’s one statistic about the Boston Red Sox slugger that should matter to baseball card collectors.

The statistic is one — as in Sandoval is one of very few players in recent years to appear on just one Rookie Card. Yep, that’s it … one.

His only Rookie Card appears in the 2008 Topps Heritage set — a high-number card — that’s not all that expensive but the lone option for those who collect via the logo. (A second card, 2008 Topps Red Hot Rookie, exists with the logo but was not directly placed into packs. It’s an insert.)

Sandoval’s first certified autograph can be found in 2008 Donruss Elite Extra Edition, while his first prospect cards can be found in 2006 Bowman Chrome, 2006 Bowman Draft and 2006 Bowman Heritage. None of them are particularly expensive except for the autograph (it’s under $20), meaning he would not be a challenge to collect.

And that’s not always a bad thing.
