Hideki Matsui to sign at National Sports Collectors Convention

Former New York Yankees star and 2009 World Series MVP Hideki Matsui has been added to the autograph roster for this year’s National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City, N.J.

He’s scheduled to sign on the final day of the five-day show, Aug. 7.

Prices and other details for Matsui’s signing are not yet known as tickets will go on sale next month. However, Matsui is not a plentiful signer when it comes to certified autographs — he has fewer than 90 different autograph cards, a relatively low number for a modern-day player (Ichiro Suzuki has more than 400), and has not signed a card with more than 100 copies made since 2004.

Nicknamed “Godzilla” by baseball fans in Japan because of his dominating bat, Matsui spent 10 seasons in MLB with the Yankees, Angels, A’s and Rays, retiring in 2012 with 175 home runs and 760 RBI in 1,236 games. He was a two-time All-Star and the runner-up for the 2003 American League Rookie of the Year award. In 10 seasons with the Yomiuri Giants, he hit 332 home runs and drove in 889 in just 1,268 games.
