What’s buzz-worthy: The formula that is Topps’ flagship and then Topps Update is back with a few twists and some new inclusions — First Pitch, First Pitch Relics and Topps Fire cards, for example — to get collectors chasing top performers and rookies from this season.

 The updated installment of the flagship Topps brand will include 300 basic cards with Gold (/2,016), Black (/64), Pink (/50), Rainbow and 1/1 Platinum, Silver Frame and printing plate parallels. … The MLB All-Star Game will be the source of eight different Relic sets with All-Star Stitches Autos, All-Star Jumbo patch autos, standard All-Star Stitches (with Gold /50 and 1/1 Platinum versions), All-Star Jumbo Patches, duals and triples. Many of these cards will be limited to fewer than 50 copies. … The insert lineup includes Chasing 3,000 for Ichiro Suzuki, the 3,000 Hit Club for past members, a Fire Baseball insert, a new batch of First Pitch celeb cards and a Team Franklin set showcasing players who use the company’s batting gloves.

The autograph lineup parallels the insert lineup with Team Franklin, Fire, 3,000 Hit Club, Chasing 3,000 and Scouting Report all getting signed versions. Scouting Report will not be numbered, while Ichiro autos will be 1/1 creations and the rest of them will be limited to just 25 copies per card. The Relic lineup will include 3,000 Hit Club Medallions (with Gold, Platinum and Platinum auto versions), 500 Home Run Club Stamp Relics, First Pitch Relics — cards using ticket stubs from games limited to only 10 copies — and 1/1 Own the Name Relics that have an entire jersey letter embedded into a card.
