Panini America is getting into the real-time trading card wave with a new program revealed on Friday that will launch with the Copa America Centenario soccer tournament this weekend.
Panini Instant will give collectors 24 hours to order cards reflecting key 0r memorable moments in the sports world.
There will be standard cards, which will be serial-numbered to the ordered amount, as well as parallels numbered to 25, five and even a 1/1 copy. The first Instant card(s) will be available tomorrow at iCollectPanini.com between noon and 1 p.m. CST.
“Panini Instant is a revolutionary direct-to-consumer product that allows fans to collect cards around key events and moments in sports,” said Panini America CEO Mark Warsop. “Panini Instant grants us the opportunity to capitalize on the evolving trend to collect in real-time and the ability to expand the trading card category beyond collectors to mainstream sports fans around the world.”
Cards will be mailed within three to five days after the end of the ordering window. While the company did not specify whether the platform will be used for football or basketball, the company does have traditional trading cards licenses in those areas.
Update: The first card is a James Rodriguez from the 2-0 Columbia win over the United States. Standard cards are $9.99 or five for $29.99, while the Green (/25) is $49.99, the Blue (/5) is $99.99 and the 1/1 Black is $249.99. A gallery of all cards is below and will be updated from time to time.
