Houston Astros prospect Alex Bregman stole the show early in the All-Star Futures Game Sunday night in San Diego, but Boston Red Sox prospect Yoan Moncada stole the show.
And to the victor go the spoils — the MVP award and the Topps Now card appearance.
Moncada went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer on the eighth inning to give the World squad the lead in what became an 11-3 blowout.
Topps previously revealed that the MVP of the game would get a card in the real-time program that’s typically focused on the major-leaguers. But since it’s part of All-Star Week, the Futures Game got the nod.
For the next 24 hours or so, the card will be available initially only on Topps.com for $9.99 apiece or for $29.99 for five. Additional discounts are available for 10-card and 20-card purchases. It’s the 238th card offered in the set so far this season but only the second for a player who has not made it to the majors.
The first card for a non-MLB player was for No. 1 overall draft pick Mickey Moniak, which sold 2,763 copies in June. Moncada, so far, is only eligible to appear in Bowman products released in packs by Topps. If he were to make his MLB debut late this season, he’d be eligible for Rookie Cards in 2017 products. He’s hitting .312 with nine homers and 49 RBI so for this season between Advanced-A Salem and Double-A Portland.
