Starting Lineup figures will apparently be returning sometime soon, according to ESPN Sports Business Reporter Darren Rovell.
The brand of small sports figures arrived beginning in 1988 via Kenner until its close in 2000 and then via Hasbro until 2001. Figures were available for the four major sports and beyond with each typically arriving with a trading card and sometimes other items within the packaging.
It’s unclear at this time whether Hasbro will continue the line. The trademark for the name has been registered with a Nashville-based company called Legacy One since 2014.
SLUs were once a hobby heavyweight with their regional distribution creating rarities in the early years. They faded from the scene after overproduction and the arrival of McFarlane Toys‘ SportsPicks, which captured sports stars at a larger size with more realistic sculptures in 2001.
