The best players of today on new cards using memorable designs of yesteryear is the point of the 2016 Topps #TBT, an ongoing baseball card set from Topps that has been released one pack a week this summer.
And this week the players are all Ichiro Suzuki and his “Journey to 3,000” that ended on Sunday at Coors Field in Colorado.
Six cards using a subset design from the 1992 Topps set all feature Suzuki. Here’s a rundown:
- First MLB hit (TBT card no. 48)
- 3000th MLB hit (TBT card no. 49)
- MLB record 262 hits in a season (TBT card no. 50)
- Inside the park Home Run at all star game (TBT card no. 51)
- Hit number 4,257 across Japan/MLB (TBT card no. 52)
- Ichiro wins ROY and MVP Same season (TBT card no. 53)
The print runs each week will be revealed after the sales window closes. The first six-card pack will cost $19.99 for one with a discounted price of $49.99 for three. There will be free shipping with Smartpost. These are only initially available on Topps.com.
“Throwback Thursday is a fun way to blend the nostalgia of Topps with the celebration of today’s stars,” said Jeff Heckman, Topps’ Director of New Product Development & eCommerce Marketplace. “We kicked it off with one of the most-popular trading card designs in history, and we have some great themes lined up for coming weeks that will excite baseball fans and collectors.”
