One of Albert Pujols’ earliest Cardinals jerseys hits auction block

Albert-Pujols-jersey-auction-3What is believed to be one of the earliest St. Louis Cardinals jerseys worn by future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols is on the auction block via Goldin Auctions.

Issued with a letter from the St. Louis Cardinals Cardinals Care Community Fund, this No. 68 jersey was used in his spring training with the team in 2001, though it’s tagged as a 2000 jersey. It’s signed on the back with that autograph further authenticated by JSA.

Albert-Pujols-jersey-auction-1With less than two days remaining in the sale, the jersey has amassed six bids and sits at $3,750.

It’s a uniquely time-framed jersey as Pujols changed to his No. 5, which he has worn his entire career, at the start of the 2001 season in which he hit 37 homers and drove in 130 RBI en route to National League Rookie of Year honors. He is shown wearing No. 68 on his 2001 SP Authentic Rookie Card from Upper Deck, though that Cardinals jersey is a home white.
