What’s Buzz-worthy: This was the fifth year of Pro Line football cards but just the third year to step away from the Zubaz-showcasing portraits of the first sets. This design is a tad bland among the Pro Line canon with the year before and the year after having some of the best designs in the history of the brand. These have a full-bleed photo with a simple name bar on the bottom. It’s also a set where, if you look carefully, there are some pixelated images where it’s clear they were transitioning into the digital realm with photography here. It’s a distraction at times but generally not that big of a deal because the base cards really aren’t the biggest emphasis. The key here? One autograph per box. Guaranteed. This box had a no-frills player for ink, but at least it’s a guy who put in 15 years in the NFL, has three Super Bowl rings to show for it and has only five other certified autos. … If you can find these boxes at a bargain price like this one was ($19), it’s worth it for a shot at autographs of Troy Aikman, Drew Bledsoe, Tim Brown, Randall Cunningham, Boomer Esiason, Marshall Faulk, Charles Haley, Craig Heyward, Michael Irvin, Jim Kelly, Jay Novacek, Andre Reed, Emmitt Smith and many more lesser names from a strong era for football cards. Buzz likes Pro Line but these boxes are drying up quite a bit since they started guaranteeing an autograph in every box back in 1992.
