Bowman Platinum’s powerful return should impress with checklist alone

s-l1600-2Big names, big ink and a smaller than normal distribution is a recipe for a hot product with longer-term potential.

Some of the names on the autographed checklist should reinforce that potential — Alex Bregman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Brendan Rodgers, Daz Cameron, Dansby Swanson, Ian Happ, Lucas Giolito, Willson Contreras, Yoan Moncada, Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, Julio Urias, Kris Bryant, Kenta Maeda, Mike Trout and Trevor Story. (And that’s just two of the checklists in this one.)

That product is 2016 Bowman Platinum, and it’s initially billed as a Walmart-only brand doing well enough that it’s now also available with 20-pack boxes on hand from Blowout.

There are two other autograph sets in this one — and there are two autographs per 20-pack box with a little bit longer shot at ink in blasters — so there’s a good amount of ink in a product that should have a shorter run than others that go full retail and full hobby.

On the secondary market, asking prices of key autos and even box lots is pretty strong with those top names. Completed auctions include some impressive prices paid for boxes as well as key singles and lofty asking prices from prospectors.

Its limited release (and likely lower print run than some Bowman brands) along with that powerful checklist could make it a sleeper for years to come. Or, at worst, a great place to pick up early ink of some solid players.
