Sunday Superstars: Week 5 notables include Ezekiel Elliott, Tom Brady, T.Y. Hilton, Sammie Coates & more

elliott

While there might be a quarterback controversy brewing in The Big D, there’s no doubting who the top RB is for the Dallas Cowboys after a 30-17 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.

It’s Ezekiel Elliott and his 134-yard, two-touchdown day has cemented him as one of the front-runners among rookies this season — on a historic level, too.

According to Elias, his 546 rushing yards this season are the fifth-best total in NFL history for the first five games of a player’s career. The only better starts are Eric Dickerson (645 yards), Adrian Peterson (607), Todd Gurley (575) and Billy Sims (560). That’s not bad company — and that’s good news for Elliott’s cardboard given how Gurley looked last year.

David-Johnson-Playbook

— David Johnson The Cardinals RB racked up a league-leading 157 rushing yards and two touchdowns in addition to three catches for 28 yards in a 33-21 win over the 49ers. For the season he’s at 457 yards — and he only had 581 last year.

s-l1600

— T.Y. Hilton The Colts WR put up a league high 171 yards on 10 catches with a touchdown in a 29-23 win over the Bears. He only failed to catch one ball thrown his way, upping his total for the year to 25 catches for 507 yards and three TDs. There’s probably some added potential here with him being in tandem with a hobby star, Andrew Luck.

coates

— Sammie Coates This Steelers WR caught six passes but racked up 139 yards and two TDs in a win over the Jets. It was his first 100-yard game and he’s definitely having a strong year compared to his one-catch campaign as a rookie a year ago. He has 19 catches for 421 yards this season.

— Amari Cooper The Raiders WR had six catches for 138 yards and a touchdown in a 34-31 win over the Chargers. He’s been somewhat quiet this year with 26 catches for 456 yards and one touchdown this season after a rookie year with 1,070 yards and six TDs. He’ll be one to watch as this season marches on.

coleman

— Tevin Coleman This Falcons RB didn’t have an impressive day running (six carries for 31 yards) but it was his catching that gets him here. He had just four receptions but racked up 132 yards and a TD against the Broncos. His stats aren’t overwhelming this year but they are impressive, making him one to watch.

2016-Panini-Impeccable-football-Brady

— Tom Brady He’s back and he proved it with 406 yards and three TDs in a 33-13 rout of the Browns. Will be go scorched earth the rest of the way after his suspension? If he does, the results should be interesting.
