What’s Buzz-worthy: Panini’s Donruss football line is a fun one this season so Buzz opted to pick up a discounted blaster of last year’s just for comparison, knowing that there are a few key rookies from last year that this collector wouldn’t mind adding on the cheap. My reaction? This year’s set is better. The 2015 base set has a unique design but it feels more blocky and stiff compared to its successor, which borrows from the 1990 Donruss release. The 2015 release also relies on Elite inserts a tad too much (four inserts in seven packs) and there are very few Rookie Cards per box. (This year’s offers much more.) Overall, you can see the collectable seeds sewn in the 2015 release that were improved upon for this year’s set. This particular box was a bit heavy on one rookie with Devin Funchess being the only numbered insert as well as the one-per-box hit. At their discounted prices, these boxes are one to consider mostly for the fun of it but there are big names possible, too.
