What’s Buzz-worthy: Buzz picked up this box from the discount bin for $12 and it delivered well for that price (and original price) with a hit and two numbered inserts — both much tougher than the posted odds. (Framed mini Relics are one in 106 packs and one in 14 and 26 on the Purple and Green.) That Maz short-printed mini? Those are one in every eight boxes per the stats, too. The player selection wasn’t great on the base cards but two of the best RCs were in this box and the names in the inserts are relatively strong. Hobby boxes guarantee two autos and two Relics — so they aren’t cheap — and that makes these blasters a bit better option for those building sets or wanting a shot at something without going higher-end price-wise. This one is a definite improvement on 2015’s dark-bordered cards though I ultimately gave it the same grade as last year. This box delivered better than I expected though it’s probably above average. If you like retro MLB sets and see them cheap, they’re one to consider. They just might pay off from time to time.
