What’s Buzz-worthy: Buzz is a big fan of Topps football from 1986 to 1988 and this one is right in the middle of not only the timeframe but also the price now — not too expensive, not too cheap — and it’s got a few notable Rookie Cards and plenty of stars. Unfortunately, all those stars were all nowhere to be found in this pack, which had five cards with serious nicked edges and its lone stars being offensive linemen and a new Hall of Fame kicker. (Translation: Commons.) Among the possible stars found in these packs? Rookie Cards of Randall Cunningham, Doug Flutie, Jim Kelly, Jim Everett, Herschel Walker and Charles Haley as well as cards of Jerry Rice, Reggie White, Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, John Elway, Dan Marino, Warren Moon, Walter Payton, Boomer Esiason, Andre Reed, Eric Dickerson and others. The design is simple and clean and the set is built cleanly with a team card and its roster following it when it comes to the checklist. Single cards can be had inexpensively but wax has dried up much, much, much more than its baseball counterpart and that’s where you’ll find new, crisp grading-worthy cards. This pack was a total dud but I’d buy a box immediately if at the right price.
