What’s Buzz-worthy: This one’s all about the chase of the Cal Ripken Jr. Rookie Card and maybe some fun and sometimes high-priced variations. (See: Lee Smith’s RC logo snafu and John Littlefield’s reversed negative for starters.) This pack didn’t deliver anything big but it did include three Hall of Famers — Eddie Murray, Steve Carlton and Tony Perez — and a Rookie Card of a guy who has a pretty good shot at getting there as a manager, Terry Francona. Unlike other cards from this era, this pack was reasonably clean-cut and grading-worthy. Not all were perfect but they were much stronger than others I’ve ripped. All in all, this was a cheap and fun rip that delivered better than I thought it would. It makes me wish I had picked up a few more.
