Do you like Buzz Breaks? Today’s your day then as we launch 12 in 12 — a series of a dozen breaks of past wax boxes and wax packs in a dozen hours. We’ll post one every hour on the hour all day long today … this is Hour 8.

Cards per pack: 7
Base set completion:
7 of 56 (13 percent)
Duplicates: 0

Inserts: None

Autographs/Memorabilia: No chance

What’s Buzz-worthy: This bare-bones release is one that actually includes twice as many cards as needed to build the set. Each card has either a red or blue border and two different puzzle backs — an ensemble photo or a photo of J.R. Ewing on the back. This series ran from 1978 to 1991 and this set arrived early on in that run, which brought the world the sordid tales of the backstabbing family of an oil tycoon. People of a certain age might know the show well, but a pack of this one made for a good gag gift for someone else. (This collector didn’t watch it but knows the theme song and still wonders who shot J.R.) The cards are simple and clean and not awful for the time — but ultimately nothing all that special now.
