What’s Buzz-worthy: Back in 1987, this would have been a solid pack with Will Clark, Benito Santiago and Roger Clemens. These days? Not so much, but the design and simple classics like the Clark are timeless. The wax packs here are always quite loose and somewhat heavy on the wax so damaged cards can be found in these packs. The good news, though, is that these boxes can still be found and they’re still relatively cheap, too, despite there being some big names. Greg Maddux is the biggie, but there’s also Barry Larkin, Bo Jackson, Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Ruben Sierra, Rafael Palmeiro, David Cone and many other cards that were classics at that time and in years since. One might argue that this one is the last of the classic 1980s Donruss releases and it’s one with a simple yet bold design that still adds up to “good stuff” today. If you’re busting for singles, cracking a factory set might be safer for the condition and centering but these boxes are a relatively fun — yet very simple — rip if cheap enough.
