What’s Buzz-worthy: The Bowman Inception prospecting brand known for its black base cards and colorful rainbow gets called up to the majors with a Topps Inception branding and a white base card design while keeping the thick stock and a Five Star-caliber printing approach. The box prices are lower since there’s just one auto per box (in the past it was nothing but ink) but when you win here you win. When you don’t, you probably have something along the lines of a Raimel Tapia autograph, a guy you’ve probably seen in past Inception boxes. The base set and the hits in general here are solid — and there’s some solid potential for big stuff to be found in these boxes with patches, oddball cards like buttons and even big names in higher volume than you’d expect. (Mike Trout has a patch auto where one version is /50 and it has parallels.) Not having multiple prospect autos per pack makes this one a bit riskier than in the past — it puts all the focus on on the one auto — but it’s one that, had it looked like this in the past, this collector would have ripped a lot more often.
