MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred among many non-traditional autos on 2017 Topps Archives checklist

An official MLB baseball isn’t the only place you’ll find the signature of MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred.

His autograph will be found in packs of 2017 Topps Archives, which is set to arrive next week with two signed cards in every box.

Topps has released the final checklist and that’s not the only surprise autograph in store.

Top MLB stars such as Aaron Judge, Clayton Kershaw and Kris Bryant will be found on cards with the 1983 Topps design. Joining them? FOX’s Skip Bayless, Boston Red Sox radio announcer Joe Castiglione and MLB umpire Jim Joyce. On 1990 cards? Yankees fan Bald Vinny, former Yankees slugger Kevin Maas and Hall of Famers Hank Aaron and Sandy Koufax. Signing for 1971 design cards will be Bill “Spaceman” Lee and MLBPA executive (and former player) Tony Clark and signing 1979 cards are Astros star Carlos Correa and umpire John Hirschbeck, On 1982 cards we’ll find ink from MLB reporter Ken Rosenthal, Cuban baseball star Lourdes Gourriel Sr., Hall of Fame honoree Peter Gammons and professional ballhawk Zack Hample.

Rounding out the non-traditional autos will be ink from Cubs GM Theo Epstein, actor Gene Hackman and Yankees announcer John Sterling. Big baseball names also signing? Derek Jeter, Mike Trout, Corey Seager, Nolan Ryan, Andrew Benintendi and Dansby Swanson.

Interestingly for base cards it appears that all cards have variations. The 1992 designed cards all have gold foil “winners” variants, while the 1982 cards have “blackless” cards missing their black ink (no facsimile auto is the obvious sign) and the 1960 cards can also be found on darker stock. Other variations’ printing codes end with 799.
