The man behind the mask and the mayor of Quahog has died.
Adam West, best-known as television’s Batman in the 1960s but recently found among those on the Family Guy cast for the last 17 years, had been battling leukemia. He was 88.
“Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives,” his family said in a statement. “He was and always will be our hero.”
West’s career began back in the 1950s and included nearly 200 credits beyond the cape and cowl that ultimately defined his career despite the show running for only three seasons. Other appearances on his credits include Bonanza, Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, The Outer Limits, The Virginian, Bewitched, Alice, Rugrats, Tales from The Crypt, The Simpsons and so many more.
When it comes to cardboard, he’s got plenty of Batman cameos as well as more than 100 appearances as himself. Of those, he’s got 75 certified autograph cards and the first are in the 2007 Donruss Americana release. He can also be found in 2008 Americana Celebrity Cuts, the 2002 The Outer Limits release, 2001 and 2011 Topps American Pie (signed Batman buyback cards in the latter year), 2011 and 2012 Leaf Cut Signature Edition and Leaf Pop Century in 2012, 2015 and 2016. He’s never been a heavy-volume signer despite having a place in so many products — some of which include him beside his Batman co-star Burt Ward, aka Robin.
