If you hadn’t noticed, there are a number of cases with dramatically discounted prices this weekend over on the mothership and they were dramatic enough that Buzz had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of them.
So much so here are five that caught this collector’s eye.
2013 Panini USA Baseball Stars & Stripes boxes
This was the first in-pack USA Baseball product and it includes stars from the rich history of the program as well as stars from recent years. You can find ink from guys like Mark McGwire and Roger Clemens along with ink from Kris Bryant, Corey Seager and Francisco Lindor, too. It’s not a true prospector product since it’s got a lot of those past names, but it’s a fun and quality rip with at least five hits per box — and some of those could be high-end memorabilia cards (bat knobs, flag patches), too.

2013 Elite Extra Edition baseball boxes
Can you name the only set with first-year autos for Cody Bellinger, Aaron Judge, Clint Frazier and Kris Bryant? It’s this one. With at least six autos per box — more if it’s a Hot Box — you’ve got a solid shot at these names. Even unsigned Bellinger parallels here have commanded big money a few times over — as much as $185 for an unsigned card limited to 100 copies. These boxes aren’t on the cheap side any more, but they can deliver very, very well. (Panini Prizm Perennial Draft is also up for grabs via the case — so if you want more from this class but not Bellinger, check that one out.)

2013 Panini Prizm Collegiate Draft Picks football case
Like college football and need a cheap bulk rip? This is one to consider. You’ll find two autographs per box along with a dozen inserts in every 12-pack box. Oh, and you’ll also find some of the game’s biggest notable names among young NFL stars. This is a fun rip for the price — and some of those lesser names who didn’t make an impact in the NFL still have college collectors who might need their rarities if pulled.

2016 Topps WWE Heritage blaster case
Want another break with some volume, some punch and a low, low price? Try this re-do on 1986 Topps baseball but with the stars of the WWE — both past and present. You’ll find a hit in every box and there’s a shot at low-numbered parallels of those as well as base cards. You can’t lose at this price — not even by disqualification. The base cards’ photos and printing here are top-notch Heritage.

2013 Panini Beach Boys hobby case
Buzz hates to sound like a broken record, but this one makes the list any time there’s a big sale. As said previously, this one is admittedly probably off the radar of many collectors but that doesn’t mean that it can’t deliver. In fact, these can deliver well if you pull the right ink. Brian Wilson autos? They sell for more than you might think and he’s not alone when it comes to autos in there that have topped the $100 mark. Like the Panini Country release, there are non-traditional collectors chasing cards here to build sets or chase stuff they like with no regard for what something “should” cost based on what it is or its scarcity. Meanwhile, they may not know where to buy boxes — or not want to. Those things can lead to some surprising results — and that’s not the only surprise. Check out the price on this box.
