There’s a new tag team in the WWE and it’s goal isn’t to win championship gold — it’s to help Make-A-Wish America.
That tag team is Mattel and John Cena and every single copy of the new toy that’s sold gives $1 to the foundation that grants life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses — it says so right on the packaging.
And it’s only found in one store.
The toys will arrive at Toys R Us stores beginning on Aug. 15 and can be pre-ordered on the company’s site right now for $12.99. The exclusive-paint figure shows him wearing a shirt that was designed by a Make-A-Wish participant named Alex.
“Having the opportunity to meet Alex and witness first-hand his vision behind the action figure was an incredible experience,” Cena said in a prepared statement. “There is nothing more humbling than a child who could ask for anything in the world asking to meet me, and I will continue to grant wishes as long as I am asked.”
Also starting today? A social media awareness campaign where every retweet or share of the company’s #GivingIsAwesome posts will mean a $1 donation to the foundation.
Autographed copies of the toy will be sold on eBay next month to also help raise money and awareness for Make-A-Wish. Cena has granted more than 500 wishes to meet him as part of his career — and that’s a record for any person involved the program.
