If you hadn’t noticed, there are a number of boxes with discounted prices this weekend and for the next week or so over on the mothership and they were dramatic enough that Buzz had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of them.
So much so here’s the first of a few “picks” to come in the next few days.
The pick this time? A 2015 Panini Prizm baseball hobby box. Why?
You get two autos per box in this colorful release and they’ll most often be on-card rookie autographs from a crop that includes Aaron Judge, Kris Bryant, Corey Seager, Addison Russell, Miguel Sano, Javier Baez, Luis Severino, Joc Pederson, Kennys Vargas and a number of other guys who have had their time under the hobby spotlight.
Raw parallels of Judge have fetches as much as $300 ungraded and as much as three times that when slabbed — and that’s just in recent eBay auctions.
And this edition of Prizm isn’t only about rookies, either. The checklist includes Jose Canseco, Tim Raines, Alex Gordon, Jim Rice, Jacob deGrom, Andy Pettitte, Corey Kluber, Todd Frazier, Will Clark, Mookie Betts, Alex Gordon, Paul Goldschmidt, Francisco Lindor and plenty more. If you happen to pull some of those guys on their USA Baseball autos, you might pay for a box easily. (You will if you pull one of those elite rookies.)
This one’s a fun rip with a number of parallels and inserts per box, too.
