What’s Buzz-worthy: If you look back at basketball sets of the last 20 years, the brief run of Press Pass Legends should stand out as a highlight for its on-card autographs, rich college photography (a mix of action and posed portraits) and a distinct look and feel. Perhaps it’s because this collector only ripped a blaster or two back in the day, but this one was an immediate buy when I spotted it. This one included a low number of cut autographs for LSU and college basketball icon “Pistol” Pete Maravich and includes ink from the likes of Scottie Pippen, Larry Bird, Dominique Wilkins, James Worthy, Sue Bird, Jerry Tarkanian and so many more notables of the past — a mix of Hall of Famers and more recent greats. It also includes a number of players who were emerging players at the time. Adding to the mix are rarer inscription autos and ink-color parallels. Are many of the autos expensive? No, but they’re a tad more unique with college photography, which hadn’t been done as much at that time. The insert lineup here is pretty simple, too, which is a plus. About the only drawback here is that you only get three packs in a box. If you see one, it’s worth considering if not priced at a premium. Hobby boxes? Do it.
