What’s Buzz-worthy: There have been a number of USA Football releases from Upper Deck in recent years and this one might arguably have the best crop of guys who went on to the NFL. At its price, I decided it was worth a try. I got base cards of those guys with Sunday experience — Jameis Winston, Todd Gurley, Devin Funchess, Malcom Brown, Corey Coleman — but not much else. While I know that was not the case here, these sets could be tampered with easily as there’s no security seal on the box — just clear wrappers — and then the hits are laid in a tray below a secured brick that is the base set. (Top card? Winston, so that one could arrive with damage.) The design here is nice and the checklist is 50 players deep (all players on box-bottom seen in gallery below) but there’s not much here beyond those big names unless you’re a serious fan of the college game. Other years pack a lot more ink but not that many players have made it to the Sundays — at least not yet. One thing also not found in this box? Printing plates. If these types of products are cheap enough, I’ll dabble once. This particular year, at this price, is maybe worth a second rip.
