If you hadn’t noticed, there are a number of boxes with discounted prices right now over on the mothership as BlowoutCards.com is in the midst its Black November sales now.
Wave 5 is here and many of the discounts were dramatic enough that Buzz had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of the boxes and cases — and here are five boxes/cases that caught this collector’s eye. (And this wave was so big that there could easily be five more … check it out.)
2016 Panini Absolute Football retail Premium Box
At this sale price, this one is definitely worth checking out since last year’s rookie crop is stacked and this one includes two exclusive hits — one blue auto and one blue memorabilia card — in every box. This one is a simple retail take on a memorabilia-focused favorite of mine and there could be even more retail-only colors found in boxes, too. If those are big names such as Dak Prescott or Ezekiel Elliott — or any of the other newcomers that are making a mark — you’re way ahead with this price. Either way, it’s a fun rip — and you can grab it by the case, too.

Topps Heroes Series 1 trading card hobby box
Turn back the clock a decade and this was one of the top shows on TV, one where everyday people realize they have super-hero-type powers. It ran for just four seasons, but it’s got a number of card sets and this one was the first. You can find autographs, clothing Relics and sketch cards several times per case (and sometimes more than one per box). Autographs include most of the main cast members — Hayden Panettiere, Zachary Quinto, Milo Ventimiglia, Masi Oka and Adrian Pasdar to name a few — and the Relics include pieces of the iconic cheerleader uniform and more. Some of the sketch cards here can be very impressive, too. At basically $1 a pack, this is one to rip.

2013 Panini Prizm Perennial Draft Picks baseball boxes and cases
If you want to pull autographs of Aaron Judge, Kris Bryant, Joc Pederson, Clint Frazier, Amed Rosario, Jose Abreu, Byron Buxton and Mookie Betts this is arguably your most-affordable and most-plentiful place. The auto rainbows include a number of cards limited to less than 100 copies so some notables on rarer shades can pay for a good part if not all of a box pretty easy. You get four autos per box here and then nine other parallels or inserts. This one was a fun rip when it was cheaper a few years ago and now it can bring you some strong returns. If you’re just a collector and not worried about cash, this one is a no-brainer among this wave, too.

2010 USA Baseball box set
This was the year that the annual USA set went high-end thanks to the demand for one big name inside, Bryce Harper. He’s found on more than a dozen different cards here — most of them signed — and other big-leaguers inside this one include Manny Machado, Francisco Lindor, Sonny Gray, Trevor Bauer, Albert Almora, Kolten Wong, Nick Castellanos, Jameson Taillon and Robbie Ray. All of them have autographs and memorabilia cards here and this price is a sliver of its original mark.

2008 Donruss Americana Celebrity Cuts hobby box
This one is a little bit riskier rip since it’s higher-end with just two hits (an autograph in there two-thirds of the time) and some lesser demand for some celebs in the non-sport world, but the names on the high-end are impressive. Among the best autographs here are Quentin Tarantino, Ashley Judd, John Travolta, Barbara Bush, Leonard Nimoy, Burt Reynolds, Carrie Fisher, Willie Mays, George H.W. Bush, Willie Nelson, Mark Hamill, Buzz Aldrin, Christina Applegate, Debbie Reynolds, Ron Howard, Jerry Lewis, John Wooden and so many more, including some from the sports world. With some luck you can win big and these singles aren’t quite as plentiful as you might think due to the time since they arrived and the high-end format. That can lead to impressive prices from those who really want a certain card they can’t find from these. (Tarantino ink needed here.) And, yes, there are a few cases available.
There’s plenty more among the Black November sale items in the new (and past) wave — check ’em out here — and we’ll have several more to come leading up to Black Friday. Buzz will be here each time to pick highlights and budget breaks from the bunch.
