Buzz Break: Busting a 1989 Topps ‘Ghostbusters II’ wax pack

Here’s a Buzz 12 in 12 style retro pack break that didn’t make the cut for our next marathon of a dozen breaks of past wax boxes/ packs in a dozen hours that’s coming next week.

What’s Buzz-worthy: This classic was the first card set for the first two films of the hit franchise starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and more. This set follows the formula of 1980s non-sports sets from Topps pretty closely with actor cards leading off the set and then highlights throughout with stickers as the only inserts. The “Widescreen SFX Shot” cards are sprinkled throughout the set offering more of a big screen look at scenes where it’s needed. What I look for in packs like this are main character cards or ensemble cards where you can see most of the stars. The final card in the set is the “Until next time … ” card in the gallery, which is primly the best of those types of cards. Another highlight in this particular pack is the appearances of Vigo the Carpathian since that character was a pretty big part of this one. Rick Moranis’ big role in this film also (just barely) gets seen in this pack on a card, which is fun. If this one interests you and you haven’t already found one, your best bet is to find a factory set — yep, they made them — or just track it down already built. These are old but not from a rarer time in cardboard history so there’s no need to overpay and build it from packs.
