What’s Buzz-worthy: This debut release of Ovation is one that has a unique and clean design with embossing and plenty of foil along with tiers of short-prints and tiers on the insert side, too. The reason I dug in here for the first time since back in 1999? The allure of a Mickey Mantle Piece of History memorabilia card. There are just 300 of those made — and I think only found in this brand — while overall memorabilia cards are one in 247 packs here. That’s not impossible, so I figured it was worth a shot to rip here. There were no hits to be found but this one is still an interesting break. The Major Production cards are one in every 45 packs. The ReMarkable cards have tiers with cards as rare as one in 99 packs but this was not one of those cards. The stock here is relatively chippy so finding gradeable copies here might be a challenge for those with an affinity for 1990s cards. Overall, though, there’s nothing big-money here but it was a fun look back and some big names are still found in these packs … even Mantle.
