What’s Buzz-worthy: This is a brand all about the chase without a dramatic cost — this box was $10 — and while this box was relatively simple it shows you where your potential can be. The Holo inserts can be solid finds if they are key Rookie Card parallels and then atop that you can land parallels of inserts. None here were numbered but they are possible and so are Checkerboard and Pink parallels. Also possible here are Rookie Signatures and Signature Series cards. You get three inserts per pack here and typically a handful of your base cards are RCs. This one is a relatively fun re-do of the 1990 Donruss baseball design but with Optichrome stock and it’s one that can appeal to collectors from all areas of the hobby — beginners, hit-chasers, high-end traders (key graded copies) — and that may be a reason why you don’t find many boxes in stock. (This one I happened to spot buried in a retail store aisle along with some gaming packs.) The new Donruss is here for this year — and that one probably helps set the stage for Optic after that. This collector will be ready.
