Bargain Buzz: Scouting the Blowout Black Friday Doorbusters

Buzz is a collector who has to be selective — can’t collect everything but would probably want to — so that’s why a day like Black Friday is important.

It’s a time for me to try stuff I normally wouldn’t — or try something I’ve always eyed but never done simply because the price is right.

Blowout’s Black Friday Doorbusters have been revealed and there are some serious bargains to be found along with the previous waves of Black November discounts on other brands beyond these. Keep your eyes on this forum link to get the latest of what’s been unleashed on Friday — and what’s back in stock, too.

BASEBALL — 2017 Topps Gold Label hobby box
Black Friday isn’t always about big deals on older stuff — this is one that’s just a few months old but packs an autograph in every box. Consider all those big rookies in this year’s stuff then check out the price at the link up top. (The direct link right here is live — but the Doorbuster price isn’t there yet.) MINOR-LEAGUE BASEBALL — 2017 Topps Heritage Minor League hobby box
Here’s another new box that has to be worth a try at this price — and it’s one that packs two hits every time and the potential for rarer cards of promising prospects. Check out this past break. Possible autos here include Clint Frazier, Dylan Cozens, Eloy Jimenez, Gleyber Torres, Nick Senzel, Ronald Acuna, Chris Sale, Derek Jeter, David Ortiz and Manny Machado.

FOOTBALL — 2014 Panini Prizm hobby box
You’re guaranteed to land two autographs per box every time here with 20 Rookie Cards and a number of other inserts. There are some rare colors in the rainbow so you could land some rare cards easily — and if they’re the right players you’re ahead with this box price.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL — 2015 Panini Prizm Draft Picks 20-box hobby case
Yes, this is a case but it’s a 20-boxer at that price and it’s one that includes 40 autographs in all along with nearly 250 insert cards. This one has a deep checklist but it’s got a crop of players that’s not bad at all for the college ranks and a few like the two on the box who have made their mark in the NFL. This case is worth the rip — just for the fun factor — but you could pay for a good part of it with just one or two cards if you land the right names and the right parallel.

BASKETBALL — 2016-17 Panini Aficionado hobby box
This a unique release with a revamp of a 1990s design, and it’s one of a number of NBA boxes that are up for grabs among the Doorbusters on Friday. There is one auto and one memorabilia card per box here and the checklist includes a lot of names you would expect — both among veterans and rookies.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL — 2016-17 Panini Immaculate Collegiate hobby box
The sale price on Friday will be roughly a third of the original price and that’s enough to make this collector dabble in the college ranks. You get at least five hits per box here along with one base card or parallel from a mix of past and recent-past stars from the college hardwood. With the high-end potential here, one card could easily pay for the box in some instances. Even if you get an average box, it’s better at this price — thanks Black Friday.

HOCKEY — 2013-14 Panini Rookie Anthology hobby box
This was a year with a dual Rookie Card class and it’s one that allows you to collect a number of brands (and card types) all inside one box. You get five hits per box so that adds to the fun from the ice. There are also a ton of printing plates found here atop the standard cards and inserts/parallels.

NON-SPORTS — 2016 Topps Star Wars High Tek hobby box
This one is a brand where you land one autograph and the roster of signers includes some of the biggest possible names in the epic universe that is Star Wars. There also are inserts and parallels that help add to the potential. There are a lot of lesser names among the signers, but a key one will pay for a box and more at its Doorbuster price to come on Friday.

MMA — 2016 Topps UFC Museum Collection hobby box
The lone UFC brand among the Doorbusters is this one, which includes three hits per box and boxes can include some rare stuff. (Check out this break.) Among autos you can find here? Arianny Celeste, Anderson Silva, Chuck Liddell, Conor McGregor, CM Punk, Georges St-Pierre, Ronda Rousey, Paige VanZant and many more.

RACING — 2016 Panini National Treasures four-box hobby case
Last but not least, this Doorbuster might deliver the best money for your money if you take the time to rip. Each box includes a booklet and then there are five more autographs and memorabilia cards atop those and then a base card or parallel. This is the first release of this one and it can pack some insanity in some of those books — as many as eight signers or massive patches — and then there are countless autos from stars of NASCAR’s past and present among the rest. The Black Friday price is less than half of the original price and all that high-end goodness is still in these boxes. (It’s a brand I have had fun with via BlowoutTV, too.)
