What’s Buzz-worthy: Buzz picked this one up recently when on sale (and it’s on sale again right now) and unlike a previous break of this — yep, there was a previous case — this release was a little bit stronger in its variety of who it included but had a few rarer hits. (All in all, still a good rip for a sliver of the original price.) The base cards, which use the 1986 Topps baseball design for the stars of the WWE’s past and present, delivered with remarkable consistency just as the standard inserts did, while there was some movement with the other inserts and parallels vs. the previous case. (There are no autographs in these boxes — not that big of a deal for the current price.) This base set is one of the best WWE sets ever made with the strong photography of past and present stars perfectly working here along with a simple array of inserts and parallels. The printing quality also is far better than that of 1986 Topps — and there are no wax stains here, either. The quality of this set alone keeps these cases from being a bummer if the hits don’t deliver well for you. Had these boxes included occasional signed Relics — a move that Topps has turned to this year — it might be an untouchable case and a perfect buy to hunt big cards on the cheap. This was a fun rip and I’ll be doing another when it’s at this price — this is a quality product that offers a comprehensive look at the WWE’s heritage.
