What’s Buzz-worthy: This first card set for the world of Indiana Jones is one that’s got a wrapper design that feels interestingly more modern for its time with the new (back then) Topps logo and a format that nixes stickers. (That’s different for Topps non-sports back then.) This release’s cards are all green-bordered and follow the formula that Topps’ non-sports sets used in the past with character cards leading things off and then scenes from the film throughout the rest of the set. The printing here isn’t clean or flashy — in fact it seems a little sloppy even for 1981 with color spots on those green borders and slightly washed out cards at times but it gets the job done. There were a few Indiana Jones sightings in this pack and the snake card is probably the biggest highlight, but it wasn’t the most-satisfying rip. (Maybe I’ve opened too much of the newer retro stuff in the past?) This one is probably a set best grabbed by buying it and then upgrading any cards that aren’t up to snuff condition-wise — unless you’re a big fan of this legendary franchise. Packs are cheap enough where you can build it without breaking the bank.
