What’s Buzz-worthy: If you can get past the bland tan borders of the front and the brown-ink (but comprehensive) card backs, then you might see that this is a pretty solid 1980s set. It’s a fast improvement over the year before — in many ways — and it’s the start of a 1980s run that’s got some clean and iconic cardboard in it. This one is really all about chasing three Hall of Famer Rookie Cards — Wade Boggs, Ryne Sandberg and Tony Gwynn — while there are other stars to be found. This particular pack included four Hall of Famers — Johnny Bench, Ozzie Smith, Reggie Jackson and the newly elected Alan Trammell. While they aren’t super-flashy, that’s perhaps one of the strongest runs of stars in all packs we’ve ripped today. Cello packs make for generally top-condition cards vs. wax packs so really it just comes down to centering and clean printing that can get in your way with grading. These look pretty good — way better than the 1982 cello pack ripped earlier. This is one of those brands and pack formats where a bulk rip might be pretty fun and return relatively well.
