If you want the “rookie card” of the next member of the WWE Hall of Fame, you’ll have to look back to 1980s SEC football to get in on the action.
It’s Bill Goldberg, a former Georgia Bulldogs star, who’ll get WWE’s highest nod on April 7 in New Orleans on the eve of WrestleMania XXXIV.
His first of two team-issue cards from his football days is the 1988 Georgia McDag set, which can be had relatively easily ($150 for the PSA 10 above right now on eBay), while his 1989 Georgia Police card uses the same photo but has a striking red border that’s prone to have condition issues.
Goldberg appears on more than 250 different wrestling cards — and even has a certified autograph in the 2003 Inkworks Looney Tunes Back in Action set — but it’s his certified wrestling ink that might be next up after his first Georgia card for collectors chasing the star. As the face of WCW for a time, his arguably most-iconic auto card might be his 1999 Topps WCW/nWo auto card, while he’s had a number of autos since from Leaf Trading Cards and then in Topps WWE releases this year as he made his return to the ring.
Overall, he appears on fewer than 100 different certified autograph cards.
