Spider-Man’s amazing debut continues to scorch auction block

Simply put, Spider-Man continues to amaze.

This CGC 7.0 copy of Amazing Fantasy No. 15 from August 1962 is the first appearance of Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, in the Marvel Comics universe, and it’s also one of the most-coveted comic books in existence.

This current copy? It’s pushing six-figures with time to go on the auction block.

This particular book already has collected 55 bids in an active ComicLink auction and it sits at $95,000 with about a day to go in the auction. That’s not a bad price considering that there are 47 copies (unrestored) with that grade, according to the CGC Census, but it should go higher based on other sales in this grade.

It’s also impressive to see the book push six-figures since less than a year ago, a CGC 8.5 copy sold for $155,350 via Heritage Auctions. Only 21 unrestored copies of the book grade higher than an 8.5.

Just two years ago, a CGC 9.4 copy of Amazing Fantasy No. 15 sold for $454,100, which was a world record for a comic book at auction at that time. (Private sales have reportedly gone higher.) Meanwhile, there are four copies with at a 9.4 and four more that grade a 9.6. None have graded higher.
