Ian Happ’s big arrival for Cubs might be calm before storm on cards

The newest big-name Chicago Cubs prospect arrived on Saturday and made his presence felt immediately in his first game with a two-run homer.

So far, Ian Happ is hitting .429 in his first two games, further helping bolster a mostly home-grown lineup that is watched closely by collectors.

Happ is not a surprise for prospectors as the defending World Series champs took him with the ninth pick in the 2015 MLB Draft out of the University of Cincinnati– and he’s been watched on cardboard ever since — but sales of his cards, at least so far, are showing some room for growth.

Topps reveals new autograph inclusions for 2017 Topps Tribute

There will be some new features in 2017 Topps Tribute when it arrives later this month and chief among them will be some new autographs that weren’t available back in September when this one was announced.

The biggest one? Former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who signed with the company in November. His ink will be found in Tribute Autographs and the Generations of Excellence Autographs sets.

Clock ticks for BlowoutTV 50-case auction break of 2015 Bowman Draft

SwansonIf you’re a veteran prospector you’ve probably ripped into a few Bowman Draft cases through the years, but the latest big break from BlowoutTV is one that has to impress even the most-grizzled of hobby veterans.

It’s a 50-case break of 2015 Bowman Draft. Yep, 50 cases. That’s 600 boxes. That’s 14,400 packs. That’s a whole lot of potential.

The clock is winding down on the auction for this break with a deadline on ink tonight (click here for the basics) and there are a few players who should grab the attention of prospectors. Looks like 2016 Bowman Platinum baseball cards are on the way — as a Walmart exclusive

Bowman Platinum is apparently making a comeback.

How do we know this?

Topps released a final checklist for the baseball brand on Wednesday — and that makes it a likely candidate to be arriving very soon as a Topps.com exclusive. Update: Make that a Walmart exclusive.

It will arrive on Aug. 24 with a parallel rainbow that includes Purple (/250), Green (/99), Orange (/25), Black (1/1) and printing plates (1/1) parallels as well as Ice parallels only available two per “value box.”

Update 2: There will be two autographs per 20-pack box, while blaster boxes (value box) will have seven packs and a four-card Ice parallel pack. Fat packs will include 12 cards.

Auction clock ticking down on BlowoutTV’s 50-case break of 2015 Bowman Draft baseball cards

SwansonIf you’re a veteran prospector you’ve probably ripped into a few Bowman Draft cases through the years, but the latest upcoming break from BlowoutTV is one that has to impress even the most-grizzled of hobby veterans.

It’s a 50-case break of 2015 Bowman Draft. Yep, 50 cases. That’s 600 boxes. That’s 14,400 packs. That’s a whole lot of potential.

The clock is winding down on the auction for this break (click here for the basics) but there are a few players who will grab the attention of prospectors now — and inevitably those and a few others will grab the attention of baseball fans later. (It’s Bowman Draft.)

Panini increases autograph output in 2015 Elite Extra Edition boxes

panini-america-2015-eee-baseball-yoan-moncadaWhen Panini America first revealed 2015 Elite Extra Edition back in October, it promised that the annual prospecting staple would include plenty of autographs — eight to 10 in the warmest of Hot Box scenarios and six autos for the standard boxes.

But there will be even more ink when it arrives next Thursday.

Six more signers revealed for 2015 Bowman Draft baseball release

Who will be signing for 2015 Bowman Draft? That’s a question that’s been ongoing and  Topps has been trickling out names via the BowmanCards Twitter account.

The first two signers will be Dansby Swanson and Brendan Rodgers but they’ll now be joined by a few others.
